It is common perception that Muslim rulers who invaded India were Idol brokers. Beside it they also plundered its wealth and they got forcefully converted local people into Islam. These invades started from Muhammad-bin-Qasim in 711 A.D. According to history Muhammad-bin-Qasim was first famous Muslim invader on India. It was Sindh from where Indian border started at that time. It was a prosperous independent state. Muhammad-bin-Qasim invaded Sindh in 711 A.D. and defeated the ruler of Sindh named King Dahir (Kashmiri Brahmin) and established his rule in Sindh. The reason of invasion of Muhammad-bin-Qasim on Sindh had been denial of not over handing the two Arabian rebels taking shelter in Sindh by King Dahir. The Khalifa of Arab Sulayman-ibn-Abd-al-Malik had become angered and had ordered Muhammad-bin-Qasim for attacking on Sindh who was 17 years old only. He had been given a squad of 10,000 soldiers for invading Sindh while King Dahir had a strong army more than 2 lacs soldiers. When Muhammad-bin-Qasim had reached near Sindh, some Buddha subjects of King Dahir had visited Muhammad-bin-Qasim and had suggested him how King Dahir could defeated in the battle because they had been made second class subjects by King Dahir. Thus the army of 10,000 soldiers of Muhammad-bin-Qasim succeeded in defeating the 2 lacs army of King Dahir. King Dahir was killed and Muhammad-bin-Qasim had establish his rule in Sindh. After fall of Sindh bloodshed of local peoples had been took place for 3 days in which uncounted people had been killed. It shows that subjects of King Dahir having faith in Buddhism were angry with the king and had wanted the end his rein. Besides some Brahmin subjects were not also with him because King Dahir had married his own sister named Maai Rani on the advice of two Astrologers for retaining his rein on Sindh but he did not establish relation of wife and husband with his sister. His younger brother Daharsena was so much angered that he attacked the fort of King Dahir but had not succeeded and had been died in front of the fort.
It is most interesting that those two Astrologers who had adviced King Dahir for marrying his sister for retaining his rule in Sindh, but they had not been able to predict the attack of Muhammad-bin-Qasim on Sindh. It is to be remembered here that Muhammad-bin-Qasim was not a preacher of Islam but a soldier only. So, he had not tried to establish as Islamic state in Sindh. Muhammad-bin-Qasim was a man of strong character. This conclusion can be drawn from this fact that after winning the battle, he has sent the two daughters of King Dahir to Khalifa, Sulayman-ibn-Abd-al-Malik where these girls lied about their modesties being robbed again and again by Muhammad-bin-Qasim. Having listening this story the Khalifa, Sulayman-ibn-Abd-al-Malik had ordered the arrest of Muhammad-bin-Qasim and he had been torchured to death. Muhammad-bin-Qasim stayed for 2 years in Sindh and run his rule here. When khalifa, Sulayman-ibn-Abd-al-Malik had come to know about the lies of daughters of King Dahir, he had gotten them to brick into a wall. It indicates that khalifa, Sulayman-ibn-Abd-al-Malik was an unsound minded person and was unable to take right decision.
As historical recordes said no force was used for conversion and non-muslim subjects were allowed to worship according to their faiths. Not only this, construction of new Temples were allowed. No Temples were destroyed in which famous Surya Temple situated in Multan were also included. Yet gold and ornaments from Temples had been removed and they were sent to Khalifa. Muhammad-bin-Qasim for running his administration taken help of Hindus and Buddha subjects. He had declared the non-muslim subject as a Zimmi who had been give all kind of protection in return of it they were ready to pay Zaziya. During his rein economy of Sindh had prosperoud and many new cities had been developed.
This brief history of Muhammad-bin-Qasim does not show him as a Pillager. Instead of it had projected his image as a good ruler who had respected all religion and faith of his subjects. In the end we can draw this conclusion that Muhammad-bin-Qasim had not invaded India (sindh) for plundering its wealth. But had establish his rein here and promoted its economy.
I wrote this post because of a comment made by someone on my one post in which it had been alleged that Muslim invader have plundered India's wealth and had destroyed Temples and forcefully converted local people into Islam.
